Departure Checklist
6 Months before Departure
- Register with Hamilton James & Bruce’s International Candidate Program – international@hjb.com.au
- Liaise directly with Hamilton James & Bruce’s International Candidate Coordinator to gain general tips
- Finalise your CV, taking into account the preparation tips in the Career Advice section of Hamilton James & Bruce’s website
- Set up a personalised email address (Hotmail, Yahoo etc) so you can liaise and receive continual international communication and updates
- Start preparing travel documents and ensure you have a valid passport
- Contact the relevant embassy for a visa application form or download a form and view information on their website
3 Months before Departure
- Receive personalised feedback on your marketability into the market from Hamilton James & Bruce
- If possible, open a bank account in the country you are heading to
- Arrange for a Power of Attorney to manage any financial and legal matters whilst you are away
- Investigate the various types of travel insurance offered
- Compare flight options and prices offered by the various travel agencies
1 Month before Departure
- Hand in notice at work and document referee details from both your current and previous workplaces
- File your tax return
- Start to think about what you are taking and not taking, organise storage if necessary
- Vaccinations – none are required for Europe but the World Health Organisation recommends all travelers to be covered for diphtheria, measles, mumps and rubella
- Contact the Australian Automobile Association to arrange an international drivers license
3 Weeks before Departure
- Confirm the details of your interview arranged for your arrival with the International Candidate Coordinator at Hamilton James & Bruce
- Research global health insurance options.
- Arrange accommodation for your arrival overseas
- Contact your bank to change the status of your accounts as necessary and obtain overseas call free numbers should you need to contact the bank whilst away
2 Weeks before Departure
- Record your contact details for friends and family
- Photocopy all important documents. Leave one copy with a friend or family.
- Register your details on the Smart Traveller website
1 Week before Departure
- Start to organise what to pack
- Create an arrival plan and familiarise yourself with the public transport maps so you know where to go once you touch down
- Exchange some money so that you have the correct currency when you land at the airport
- Contact the International Candidate team with any last minute questions and concerns
On Arrival
- Contact our International Partners to re-confirm your appointments
- Purchase a mobile phone and advise our International Partners of its number
