Survey Confirms Positive Hiring Expectations for 2008
Friday January 11, 2007
Predictions of another year of solid economic growth, meaning a healthy jobs market and strong demand for labour, have been supported by Hamilton James & Bruce’s (HJB) latest client satisfaction survey.
When asked about hiring intentions for permanent recruitment for 2008, 10 per cent of respondents stated they planned increases of more than 10 per cent and 11 per cent said they planned increases of up to 10 per cent.
The story was similar for temporary recruitment, with 5 per cent of respondents stating they planned increases of more than 10 per cent in 2008 and 10 per cent saying they planned increases of up to 10 per cent.
Executive Chairman and CEO of Hamilton James & Bruce, Ms Deborah Wilson said, “Hamilton James & Bruce place professionals and managers into Australia’s leading organisations. With demand for skilled labour increasing over the coming year, the obvious question that employers now need to consider is where they are going to source these candidates from?”
Many employers are looking overseas to find in-demand candidates, whether they be expats who are keen to return home or foreign nationals who are interested in working in another country.
Ms Wilson also says that there are plenty of good candidates in Australia, but employers may need to re-set their expectations in this candidate short market.
“I’ve heard many senior executives complain that they can’t find the right people. If they are looking for someone with very specific technical skills and work experience, and these people are in high-demand, I’m not surprised.
“In these situations, I would encourage employers to think outside the square and be prepared to consider candidates from other industries. If someone is a good cultural fit, has the right technical skills and experience in a similar industry, they should be given serious consideration. Greater emphasis should also be placed on training and development of existing staff,” she added.
Hamilton James & Bruce focuses on continuous improvement and conducts regular customer feedback surveys to keep abreast of their changing needs and expectations. HJB’s most recent client satisfaction survey was sent to over 1,100 key clients at the end of last year.
